Donnerkeil was bred in the United State by Dagmar Fancher. We will always remember Donner as a true “all-arounder.” He achieved many Championships in dressage, hunter/jumpers, and 3-day eventing. His kind temperament enabled him to be shown and ridden by young riders. Despite suffering a severe leg injury in a trailer accident when it was swarmed by bees, he went on to recover to compete again in eventing. He was approved by the AHS based on his combined training performance record since this was prior to the inception of the 100-Day Test.
Donnerkeil was purchased by Bridlewood Farm in 1996 where he stood as a highly successful sire for 17 years. He has 151 AHS registered offspring including 15 Main Studbood mares (5 are Elite Mares), 4 Studbook mares and 8 Pre-Studbook mares. Donner was especially sought after as a superior selection for crossing with Thoroughbred and Arabian mares. His offspring are well known for their versatility, excelling in dressage, jumping, eventing and driving.
We are proud to have stood this wonderful stallion whose intelligence and lively personality never failed to endear those who came to see him. He represented the Hanoverian breed at many Equine Affaire expositions. His daughter, EM Denali HG, out of our foundation broodmare Auf Wiedersehen by our first Hanoverian stallion Adios III, is now one of our broodmare band. Like her father, EM Denali HG had a successful performance career as a jumper and passes on his legacy of athleticism to her own foals.
Donnerkeil was humanely euthanized following age-related illness surrounded by his many friends at the farm. We take comfort that his many offspring will continue his memory.
