To complete a transfer of ownership via USPS, you will need to:
- Send to the AHS office a copy of the transfer of ownership form - signed by both the seller and the buyer - and dated OR a copy of the bill of sale.
- Send a COPY of the horse's papers/passport - PLEASE DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS:
- Front and back of the AHS pink registration papers, or
- For German-papered horses that have been issued a passport
- a copy of the Certificate of Ownership, OR
- a copy of the front cover and pages 2, 3, 4 and 5 for passports issued prior to 2017 and for passports issued in 2017 or later, a copy the front cover and pages 21, 22 and 23.
- The owner(s) of record will be amended in the AHS database and a sticker will be mailed to the new owner(s) to affix onto the original registration papers.
For online submissions, complete the Transfer of Ownership form below.
- Upload a copy of the transfer of ownership form - signed by both the seller and the buyer - and dated OR a copy of the bill of sale

Although membership in the AHS is not a requirement to do a transfer, non-members pay a slightly higher fee then active members. You can join the AHS when you complete the transfer of ownership form below.Â
