Futurity Class FAQ’s

The American Hanoverian Society Futurity program offers a fun and positive way to showcase your young Hanoverian and Rhineland horses and ponies — while working toward valuable developmental goals.

Designed as an inexpensive and educational show experience, the Futurity provides breeders and owners with a friendly introduction to presenting their youngsters in a show environment. It’s also an excellent opportunity to obtain professional photos and video for sales marketing, as many inspection sites have photographers and videographers on hand.

Who Can Participate?

The AHS Futurity is open to:
Yearling colts/geldings and fillies
Two-year-old colts/geldings and fillies

Classes at inspections are divided by age and gender.

Eligible horses include those:

  • Registered with the American Hanoverian Society (AHS)
  • Registered with the Hanoverian Verband (HV)
  • Registered with the American Rhineland Studbook (ARS)
  • Registered with the Rhineland Verband (RV)
  • Holding an AHS Certificate of Pedigree (COP)

All owners must be current AHS members.

How It Works

Futurity classes are held at AHS inspection sites around the country. Horses are presented in-hand at the walk and trot on the triangle and judged on a 1-10 scale in three catagories:

  1. Conformation/Type
  2. Movement
  3. Foundation/Legs
  • Yearlings are shown in a halter
  • Two-year-olds are shown in a snaffle bridle
  • Horses are shown in-hand and may not be turned loose; a second round may be permitted if needed. An assistant may follow with a lunge whip but NO bags or other attachments are allowed.
  • Scores will be announced after each class presentation, and each futurity class participant will receive a certificate from the AHS office with their individual scores. At each inspection site, 1st and 2nd place ribbons are awarded in each of the four Futurity classes.

National Recognition & Awards

Scores from all inspection sites are tallied nationally, and the:

  • Top 5 Yearlings (any gender)
  • Top 5 Two-Year-Olds (any gender)

will earn cash prizes from the $3,000 National AHS Futurity Program, generously sponsored by Warmblood Stallions of North America.
