In 2025, the AHS announced the Dressage Mare Star Awards program. Mares must be approved Hanoverian or Rhineland. All offsprings' competition records used in computation of three-stars must be registered with the AHS as either Hanoverian or Rhineland.
Mares that reach certain achievements will be designated with one or more stars. Mares that receive a star designation(s) will have the appropriate Dressage star logo added to their offsprings registration papers.
- A star * is awarded on the basis of the mare's own performance in the mare performance test. The mare can take either the Traditional MPT or the Dressage-Only MPT, but in either the average for basic gaits must be at least 7.67 and at least an 8.0 for the rideability score.
- A two-star rating ** is awarded on the basis of the mare’s own performance in competition. Three scores of 63% or higher in separate competitions at Third Level Test 3 or higher (Freestyle scores excluded). Qualification (receives an invitation to compete) to the US Young Horse Championships in either the 4-year, 5-year, or 6-year-old Championships.
- A three-star rating *** is awarded on the basis of successful offspring in competition. Two offspring with each having one of the following successes required: offspring with Qualification (receives an invitation to compete) to the US Young Horse Championships in either the 4-year, 5-year, or 6-year- old Championships, or offspring with three scores of 63% or higher at Prix St. Georges or above (Freestyle scores excluded).
