Wellington, FL (February 28, 2014) – Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven earned the first victory of the Palm Beach Derby CDI-W during Week 8 of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF). Vilhelmson-Silfven and Lövsta Stuteri’s Hanoverian gelding, Don Auriello (Don Davidoff - Wey O Mey), topped the FEI Grand Prix with a score of 77.400%.
Vilhelmson-Silfven was quite happy with Don Auriello’s performance after a few weeks away from the show grounds. She had planned from the beginning to give the gelding plenty of time off. Vilhelmson-Silfven felt Don Auriello didn’t need to go in the arena for the sake of experience and has focused more on tweaking aspects of the test at home.
“He’s not impressed at all by competing. Every horse is different that way, and he just loves it. I had a good feeling, and I think it was a clear round. A little bit [of error] in the passage maybe, but those things that I’ve been trying to get working at home, trying to get him to react more quickly,” Vilhelmson-Silfven commented.
She continued, “It’s always a process to try and get him even better and better. For him, it’s to get more strong and more mature and really show off and use his hind legs and be in power when he goes into the arena. He’s always an on-going horse. He’s so nice to ride in there, but of course we try to make it even better.”
Another rider having a tremendous season at AGDF with several Hanoverians is Endel Ots of Wellington, FL. Ots won every class he entered at the Global Dressage Festival in February. This included winning rides on Lucky Strike, a 17H bay Hanoverian by Lord Laurie (Lord Loxley - Laurie's Crusador) and out of a His Highness mare. Lucky Strike is owned in a partnership by Endel and his father, Max Ots. Lucky Strike and Ots won the USEF Four Year Old Horse Test, with 76.2% in Markel/USEF and 79.2% in practice. “That was his first show, and he couldn’t have been better.” Ots beamed.
Ots was also undefeated on the 16:2H 7 year old Hanoverian gelding, San Dante (Sandro Hit – Weltmeyer’s Song), bred by Diane Nauman, Hardenberg Farms, OR and owned by Amber & Jason Dannatt, TX. Endel showed San Dante in 2012 to a USDF Horse of the Year Title in 4 & 5 Year Old Materiale divsion for stallions and geldings. San Dante won all of his third level tests at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby on February 28 - March 2, 2014 with scores up to 72.8%; a full 10% higher than the second place horse in that class. “I love that. It is so great to get a horse, and see them develop, and that is a real passion of mine,” Ots said.
Another undefeated pair at AGDF is Sanceo and Sabine Schut-Kery. Sanceo is a 2006 bay Hanoverian stallion sired by San Remo out of Rivera by Ramiro's Son II. Sanceo opened his Florida winter season with a bang: a win against 18 competitors in the FEI Prix St. Georges-Open class at the Global Dressage Festival 4 show on February 1, 2014 with a score of 82.763%. The pair went on to the Global Dressage Festival 5 show, winning both FEI Prix St. Georges-Open classes. The winning streak continued at the Global Dressage Festival 7 show, winning both the FEI Prix St. Georges-Open class, as well as the USEF PSG Developing Horse class with a score of 74.779%. This was capped by a win in this same division at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby with a score of 72.721%.
Also competing at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby was Doctor Wendell MF (Don Principe - Stellar Hit MF by Sandro Hit) and Christopher Hickey. This pair won the FEI Six Year Old Young Horse Preliminary and Final classes there, taking home an 81.2% as their top score . They also won the FEI Six Year Old Young Horse Final class at the AGDF 7 Show with a score of 77.8%. Doctor Wendell MF is a 2008 16:1H black AHS Elite Hanoverian stallion bred & owned by Maryanna Haymon, Marydell Farm, NC.
