The dressage community lost a star in their galaxy of phenomenal horses today. Winterprinz, owned, trained and ridden by his original owner Carolyn Adams, died this date at his home in Pleasanton, California.
Winterprinz, bred by top Hanoverian breeder Axel Windeler, was foal champion of Germany and reserve foal champion of Europe under his original name Windis Ass.
Purchased as a three year old he was entered into the 100 day stallion performance testing in Medigan, Germany where he was placed first in the dressage and top in trainability and temperament. A son out of a gold medal State's Premium Weltmeyer mare and sired by the Elite Stallion Warkant, Winterprinz was a true blue-black; gorgeous both inside and out.
Carolyn and Winterprinz bonded immediately upon his arrival in the US with the team achieving "Horse of The Year" status in all levels into the FEI. Carolyn and Winterprinz swept many CDI's in their partnership. Carolyn and Winterprinz qualified for the USEF Pan American tryouts in 2011 and competed in Gladstone, NJ that year.
Winterprinz's babies are scattered around the globe; from Germany to Hawaii to Canada and, of course, the United States. His progeny and attributes live on with many winning accolades, emulating their sire. His AHS statistics include: 119 horses, 24 Main Studbook mares, including Elite Mares Wintessa, Winter Kiss, Winter's Dream and Wrenya.
Winterprinz was truly a horse of a lifetime and we're so fortunate to have experienced his gentle, willing nature, while still having some of his sons at home and his legacy and genetics preserved at UC Davis.
We're so fortunate to have known him.
Carolyn and Patrick Adams
