Dear Hanoverian and Rhineland breeders,
the corona pandemic makes it very difficult or impossible to maintain the usual rhythm of our registration trips. The situation is particularly difficult in countries outside the EU. In many of these countries, the Hannoveraner Verband has established contact persons who can be found on www.hannoveraner.com . Together with these persons of trust, we will manage to register all Hanoverian and Rhineland foals this year.
One of the positive aspects of the pandemic is the high acceptance of our online auctions. This means that sales of our breeders' horses are still possible. This positive development has led to online auctions for Hanoverian breeders in France and Great Britain being planned for September. We hope that we will be able to provide you with more detailed information in August.

Registration trips outside Germany
After the trips planned for April (South Africa) and mid-June (Denmark) could unfortunately not take place, several registration trips are planned for the coming weeks and months. The following trips are planned for July: Belgium: July/August, Austria and Czech Republic: from August 12th; Denmark and Sweden: from August 15th. The trips to Canada, Russia, and the USA, unfortunately, had to be canceled due to the Corona Pandemic.
Further information on the above mentioned and all other registration trips can be found here. [More]

Around 100 pre-selected quality foals will be offered at another online auction of the Hannoveraner Verband at the beginning of August. The finest jumping and dressage pedigrees made up of combinations of promising young stallions and established sires with top dam lines adorn the two collections, which will be auctioned on August 8 and 9 with around 50 foals each in the auction lot in final online bidding duels.
On Friday, August 7, the auction foals will be presented live in Verden for the first time in 2020. At 5 pm (CET) a limited number of prospective buyers will be able to take a live look at the youngsters in Verden - of course with the appropriate distance. It's worth being quick, because registration is mandatory for the foal presentation and the number of places is limited. In addition, the presentation will be broadcasted via ClipMyHorse.TV in the live stream.
The auction also offers a broodmare in a class of her own: The Hanoverian premium candidate QUILEA by Quantensprung - Lauries Crusador xx, in foal to the top sire Vitalis. With catalog number 87, QUILEA will be presented to interested parties on Friday, August 7th and will be auctioned to the high bidder in the second part of the auction lot on Sunday. The performance-tested Quantensprung - Lauries Crusador xx daughter got an 8.50 from the test rider in her mare performance test and was also winner of her class in Freiburg.
Registrations for the live presentation will be accepted until July 31 exclusively by sending an e-mail to email@example.com stating the number of participants and their names. A confirmation of registration from the Hannoveraner Verband is binding.
The collection supplemented with details, photo and video presentation as well as the veterinary protocol will be available from July 29 on www.verdener-auktion-online.com. The first online bids can be submitted from August 1. [More]
Canada - Cancellation of the registration trip
The cancellation of the registration trip in Canada with foal shows and mare inspections was communicated to our Canadian breeders by a letter from the Canadian Hanoverian Society, which was coordinated with the Hannoveraner Verband in Germany. This letter outlines the alternatives for registration of mares and registration of foals that are possible thanks to the existing Hanoverian infrastructure in Canada. Many thanks in this regard go to Marjorie Haus, Chairwoman of the Canadian Hanoverian Society, as well as Inga Hamilton (Eastern Canada) and George von Platen (Western Canada), who organize the activities in their regions, and our other Canadian inspectors.
AHS - Annual Meeting postponed
In the interest of health and safety, the AHS Board has made the difficult decision to postpone the Annual Meeting scheduled for Jan 29-31, 2021 in Wellington FL. There are several ideas in the works for virtual educational/community sharing opportunities for breeders and riders, until it is safe to get together in person, so please stay tuned!
AHS - Mare Inspections by Video
On July 1, the AHS Board of Directors approved offering mare owners the option of having their mares inspected for studbook approval via video submissions. “The possibility of having mares inspected by video better serves our members living in areas with fewer inspection sites or inconvenient dates as well as recognizes the current difficulties imposed by COVID-19,” says AHS President Edgar Schutte. Mare owners will still have the option of having their mares inspected at a regular inspection site. You will find more information on the website of the American Hanoverian Society.
North American Stallion Sport Test Cancelled
The 2020 North American Stallion Sport Test (NASST), scheduled for October 26-28 at Hilltop Farm in Colora, MD, and October 30-Nov 1 at Pollyrich Farm in Solvang, CA, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and health/safety concerns. For 2021, NASST will also add a testing division for 7-year-old stallions to accommodate those stallions that were scheduled to attend this year as 6-year-olds. Each registry will be communicating with its 4- to 6-year-old licensed stallion owners to discuss how they will handle breeding license extensions given this unique situation. Each registry also offers alternate approval routes through traditional sport.
Updates regarding 2021 dates and locations will be published later this fall on the NASST website.
Contucci put to sleep
From Hilltop Farm we received the message that on July 10th the stallion Contucci had to be put to sleep. Contucci was bred by Klaus Storbeck in Germany in 1993 and is by Caprimond/Lungau. He finished his 100-day test as winner of the dressage test with an impressive 147.11 points. For two years he stood at stud at Friederike Peters in Ahstedt, then Jane MacElree bought him in 1998 and he has since been a cornerstone of Hilltop Farm. Contucci has had a significant influence on North American breeding. His awards include the title of USEF Dressage Sire of the Year and for the past five years he has consistently been in the top 10 of the USEF sire ranking. From stallion licensings and breed shows up to Grand Prix level, Contucci offspring are successful.
“Contucci's character endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of working with him over his many years here at Hilltop. He really was a great stallion!“
Verden Auction Online – Foals – from July 1 to 4
For the fourth time this year, it meant "The Bid-Up is on" for the youngest Hanoverians. For an average price of 8,514 Euros the 18 dressage offers found buyers from six countries.
The solid price structure provided four hammer prices above 10,000 Euros. At the top of the statistics is head number 81, the first foal in the collection: Force Majeure by Franco Nero/San Amour I found a new owner in the USA for 23,500 Euros. Thus Franco Nero, a Franziskus son from the Verden Stallion Market, delivered the top price in his first foal year at a Verden auction. The breeder of Force Majeure, Stephan Herrmann from Northeim, is not only the breeder of the stallion Franco Nero, but has also already delivered the most expensive auction foal in Verden to date in 2017 with the dam of this foal, the state premium mare A Speciality for You. On your marks, get set, go: The 57 horses of the Verden Auction Online in July crossed the finish line at a rapid pace. In the final spurt La Jolie carried off the top price of 53,500 Euros. The 57-strong main field crossed the finish line with an average price of 16.605 Euros.
As a filly, Gestüt Gerkenhof, Kirchlinteln, discovered the outstanding potential of La Jolie by Libertad/Davignon (b.: Hans-Joachim and Lydia Muth, Leuderode) and purchased the chestnut mare at the auction in July 2016. Four years later she was worth 53,500 Euros to a new customer from North Rhine-Westphalia.
As the best paid jumper, the already five-year-old Descara by Diancontinus/Escudo (b. a. e.: Hendrik A. Könemann, Thomasburg) finished the race. This grey mare was born to perform. Her dam Escada already produced advanced (S) level show jumpers with the internationally successful My Kiwi, the licensed stallion Conquest Boy and the half siblings Coco, Cicero and Chanel. Descera sold to Switzerland for 22,000.
Exhibitors from Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland (2), and the USA sold their six horses to Belgium, France (2), Spain, Switzerland and the USA. [More]
Verden Stallion Licensing and Stallion Sales - October 22 to 26, 2020
From 22nd to 26th October the Niedersachsenhalle will once again be dedicated to young stallions. About 100 radiant representatives of the 2018 vintage are eagerly awaited. This year, the licensing and stallion sales for Hanoverians and Rhinelanders will be divided into a dressage part (Thursday to Saturday) and a jumping part (Sunday and Monday). This will make it possible for more spectators to experience a part of the licensing and stallion sales despite the corona-related restrictions.
Numerous sports careers have found their beginning at the Verden Stallion Licensing. A prime example is double World Champion D'Avie. This impressive chestnut stallion once left the Niedersachsenhalle for Denmark as a premium stallion and was celebrated in Ermelo/NED in recent years as World Champion of young dressage horses.
Not only the announcement of the licensing decisions is exciting, but the stallion sales on Saturday and Monday is also exciting as well. Both auction days are introduced by a discipline-related show program. In addition, the proclamation of the "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2020" and the "Hanoverian Mare of the Year 2020" is eagerly awaited.
