The response to the AHS's announcement regarding WFFS testing through UC Davis has been overwhelmingly positive (see below for the original announcement). However, to receive the AHS's negotiated price on the testing, the following clarifications are provided:
- You must be a current member of the AHS.
- You must be the owner of record with the AHS for the horse being tested. The AHS will not initiate WFFS testing on horses that you no longer own whether or not you bred the horse. The AHS will also not initiate WFFS testing on horses that you do not own that are parents, siblings, offspring, or are otherwise related to your horse(s).
- The horse being tested must have AHS foal registration papers or papers from another recognized Hanoverian registry. Due to confidentiality issues, UC Davis may not seek WFFS testing on samples maintained on file by other registries.
- The horse being tested must already have a DNA sample on file with UC Davis to receive the discounted rate. The discounted rate is predicated on UC Davis already having a DNA sample for the horse on file. Owners of horses without a DNA sample on file may initiate testing directly with UC Davis according to their procedures.
Original Announcement: The American Hanoverian Society announces an important new benefit for its members. Beginning on Friday, May 4, 2018, the AHS in conjunction with the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory at UC Davis is pleased to offer WFFS testing for $35/horse.
AHS members who have previously submitted DNA samples to VGL for parentage verification (i.e., for foal registration) need not submit additional samples. Test results will be reported in confidence directly to the owner.
