Top Inspection Mares of 2010

During the summer and fall of 2010 the AHS once again conducted a nationwide inspection tour. The Society visited 31 farms and ranches throughout North America, including California (six sites), Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana (two), Maryland (two), Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina (two), Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas (two), Virginia (two), Washington (two), Wisconsin, and the province of Ontario, Canada (two). This year 205 mares were inspected, of which 186 (91 percent) were accepted: 174 mares were entered into the Main Studbook and 12 into the Studbook. Twenty-one Thoroughbreds were inspected and the AHS was able to accept 12 (57 percent) of them. The AHS also inspected 36 non-Hanoverian warmblood mares in 2010, the majority representatives of German warmblood breeds. Among the breeds accepted were 11 Oldenburgs, four Dutch Warmbloods, two Holsteiners, two Rheinlanders, one Bavarian Warmblood, Belgian Warmblood, Danish Warmblood, Selle Francais, Trakehner, Westfalen and Zweibrücker. A number of these mares ranked among the top-scoring mares of the entire 2010 inspection tour.

The 35 highest scoring mares (7.33 or better) of 2010 comprised 28 Hanoverians, three Thoroughbreds, two Oldenburgs, plus one Danish Warmblood and Holsteiner. Domestic breeders were again to the fore, as 30 (86 percent) were bred on the North American continent. Of the balance, four were imported from Germany and one from Denmark. The highest-scoring mare of 2010 with a final score of 8.16 was the domestically-bred Hanoverian Lucette (Liberty Gold-EM Aluette/Argentan I), owned and bred by Jo Ann Thomas, Ore. Ranked for second with a score of 7.83 and the top scoring non-Hanoverian mare of 2010 was Rimma Paul’s California-foaled Etoile Qui Danse xx (El Famoso xx-Merry Temper xx/Temperence Hill xx).
